The SPGS programme has been successful in establishing thousands of hectares of mostly pine sawtimber stands. The oldest timber is nearing rotation age, resulting in a wall of wood soon being available for processing! The challenge is that the industry in Uganda is not set up to process this wood and neither do they have the harvesting and timber transport capacity.
Enter CMO. Our expertise is being used to guide the industry to determine the optimal timber harvesting and transport solutions. This is a delicate process, as many stakeholders are involved and most of the growers are small and scattered. In addition, CMO will be guiding the SPGS programme on biomass waste strategies and safety programmes. Also, we will be carrying out capacity improvement initiatives where key role-players will be trained to manage the various forest engineering activities.
